Girls dress for other girls

First I need to preface this by telling a quick story about how I came to learn of this phrase.  I was at work flipping through a mag, maybe GQ or Rolling Stone, and there were a few pics of Scarlet Johansson who I think is smoking hot.  Anyways, I mentioned to a female coworker of mine that I thought so and asked her whether she felt the same way, or something along those lines.  She said that the she thought she was 'guy hot!'  I was completely dumbfounded.  Had no idea what that meant and asked her so.  She couldn't come up w/an explanation or an example.  So I cited other attractice women ( in my eyes) like Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox as examples.  The answer was still 'guy hot.'   So all of a sudden I had to wrap my head around 'guy hot' and 'girl hot.'

Now, I was really struggling to wrap my head around the concept.  The next few days I continually pestered my coworker for a definitely or an example, but she couldn't come up w/one.  I asked a few other coworkers, both guys and girls, to no avail.  Finally, I asked another coworker who shined the light on the whole thing w/one simple phrase, 'girls dress for other girls.'  AHA!  Actually, I still didn't understand immediately until she explained that 'girl hot' meant that girls dressed to impress other girls.  To look cute, to get compliments, to look chic, etc.

My world was turned upside down that day.  I have gained an edge, a leg up on the famously mysterious mind of the female.  Guys....not all girls dress to impress us.  How bout them apples!

Favre

Let's get the bashing out of the way first.  Yes, he's a diva.  Yes, he's melodramatic.  Yes, he has 'allegedly', probably done some illicit texting/calling.  Yes, he throws a lot of interceptions.  His last pass as a packer was an interception.  Yes, he dared to sign with a hated rival and even beat us twice.  Yes, I'm annoyed at him, but I don't hate him.  In fact, after he finally retires in green and gold again, I will love him as I once and always have.

Yes, Favre helped Packer nation win a Super bowl and almost another one.  Yes, he's a tough SOB.  Yes, he throws amazing, sometimes ill-advised touchdown passes, underhand, lefty, etc.  Yes, he has heart, and no one can question that.  Who can forget his first game when he came back and won last second, or the Super Bowl win, or the game right after his dad passed away against the Raiders.  That still is the most inspiring, emotional game I've ever watched.

297 games.  Thats the streak that ended last week.  Crazy, right!  I'm just old enough to have been truly spoiled by it all.  At 31 now, I've been watching Favre play EVERY game since I was 12.  I can barely remember a previous QB.  When its all said and done, I'll applaud him and be thankful that we had such a great leader, quarterback for such a long period.  I mean, lets be honest, I could be a long suffering Bears fan during which they have had 42, yes 42 starting QB's during Favre's streak.

The Mecca

La la la LAMBEAUUUU FIELD
The Frozen Tundra

Football's best stadium.  Home of 12, yes count 'em 12 championshiops!  More than any other team in the NFL.  Yes, I've said it and its true.  I've only been to Lambeau 4 times in my life, twice this past year and have loved it every time.  Just knowing the history of the place and how many Hall of Famers (and future HOF'ers) have played there gives me goose bumps.  The stadium stands alone.  The city is small (just over 100,000) and you can see Lambeau from miles away.  Fans tough it out hours beforehand to tailgate.  This last weekend, we were at a tailgate w/a smoker and had ribs and pulled pork sandwiches in 20 degree weather.  People don't mess around in that weather.  I saw tons of blaze orange, camouflage, carhartt, north face and lots of cold weather gear.  Its completely acceptable to bring in blankets to sign on the cold metal bleachers.  Once inside the stadium, theres a beautiful Atrium and the Packers Hall of Fame which I still have yet to see.  Its Green and Gold inside and has a capacity of over 70,000 rabid packers fans!  Prior to both games this season, they had an air force flyover that gets the blood pumping.  And when you win, you go back outside to tailgate more, regardless of the weather because your beloved Packers have just won at the Mecca.  Every NFL fan should come see Lambeau Field.

My wife's once a year cooking

Once a year, yes, just once a year I get the pleasure of having my beloved wife cook dinner for me.  I really truly enjoy it and it makes my birthday that much better.  Unfortunately for Kelly, its like pulling teeth.  She moans and groans about it, but still delivers because she knows it makes me happy.  In past years, spaghetti and caesar salad  were the staples.  She switched it up this year.  Grilled chicken on a salad with carrots and cucumbers and even baked some cookies.  The cookie part was a nice touch as it made our place smell great too.  If only I could convince her to cook a few more times a year, I'd be a very happy man.

Korean Tacos

Mmmmm.   Very good!  Tasty!  Yes, yes, and, um, yes!  I've only been there once so far, but after much anticipation of this newly opened restaurant, I was very pleased.  I had the BBQ pork sandwich and split some kimchi fries.  The fries were good.  Not as spicy as I thougth they were going to be and definitely needed to eat them with fork.  The sandwich was the star.  A little sweet, a little spicy, and a little crunchy...beautiful!  The pork was flavorful and thinly sliced, the daikon and carrots gave it a nice crunch, and the jalapeno's added the spice.  I was especially happy that the bread held up since the sandwich was a little messy.  My buddy had 3 different tacos and he really liked them as well.  Needless to say, I can't wait to go again and try the other items.

Re: Guys' Night

http://inspirationandroughdrafts.blogspot.com/2010/10/guys-night.html

I'd like to start out by saying thank you to Melissa for appreciating and understanding what guy's night is all about and the therapeutic effects it can have on you.  All the shit we do and talk about is for the sake of amusement, that's it!  There's no big mystery, no big conspiracy, we're not hiding anything, nor are we trying to get away from the ladies.  MOST of the time we're doing 'guy' stuff that girls don't often like doing, i.e. poker, smoking cigars, playing video games, telling jokes, trying to one up each other, telling the same old story for the hundredth time, etc.  Now of course we do drink and head to the bars and sometimes things can get a little out of hand and those times of course are the ones we live to regret.  Its why girls are always so apprehensive when they hear there's gonna be a guys night. That being said, I LOVE guys night and hope to have many more to come.  Ladies, you know we have love for you!

Old

Confucius says "The journey of a thousand miles begins with but a single step!"

Today is my 31st birthday!  Damn I'm old!  This is the time of year with my birthday, my wife's birthday, and the holidays coming up in which I tend to get a little reflective.  The 'What's' invade my consciousness.  What have I accomplished in my life?  What am I doing now?  What's next?  What do I still want to achieve?  And the list goes on...

I won't delve into my far past, but recently I have of course started blogging, not just talked about doing so and had my 1 year anniversary!  As for what I'd like to do in the relatively short term is go back to school for Mandarin and to run the half marathon next summer.  Yes, yes, laugh it up!  I just gotta remember to take it step at a time.

I've got a long life to live and a lot to do.  I better get started.  What have you accomplished?  What do you still want to do?
